Providing Disaster Relief to Texas Animal Shelters

///Providing Disaster Relief to Texas Animal Shelters

Reeling from devastating winter storms, millions of Texans struggled for survival without heat or clean water. For the state’s many homeless animals living outside or in shelters, the situation was becoming increasingly desperate.

The Emergency Rescue Team at North Shore Animal League America quickly rallied to help. Our Mobile Rescue Unit delivered much needed supplies of pet food and medication to the area, and rescued 24 dogs and puppies from the elements, and possible euthanasia.

Working with our Louisiana-based rescue partner Paws4Life, these dogs were saved from the hard-hit Friends of Jefferson Animals in Marion County, and Marshall Texas Animal Control, which is particularly overcrowded.

“They were in desperate need of supplies for the animals,” reported Karla Agostinello, Animal League America Rescue Manager. “Local stores had bare shelves. Thankfully, we were able to bring a lot of food with us from Purina and other donations. And, we can help these dogs and puppies find the loving homes they deserve.”

The sun was shining on our charming new rescues when they arrived on our campus and began the next part of their journey. Before meeting their future adoptive families, all the animals will receive full grooming, and medical and behavioral evaluations. Out of harsh conditions, now these dogs and puppies will have the protection of a warm and safe environment.

North Shore Animal League America is ready at a moment’s notice to help animals in an emergency – wherever they are. Your support enables us to act quickly and protect animals from suffering.
