North Shore Animal League America has once again joined forces with National Mill Dog Rescue to save the lives of innocent animals living in cruel and inhumane conditions. This time, the collaborative rescue efforts helped to pull 57 dogs and puppies from various commercial breeding facilities in Oklahoma and Missouri.
Better known as Puppy Mills, these operations supply pet stores across the country with high-priced, pure bred dogs, more often than not, putting profit over animal welfare. Female dogs are imprisoned with the sole purpose of birthing litter after litter, without proper medical care or human contact, while the males exist only to breed. The conditions inside these mills are indescribably cruel. Most of the animals we rescue from these facilities have never felt the embrace of a human companion, or run free in the grass as the warm sun kissed their backs. All they know are the cramped wire cages they are confined to day after day, year after year.
Please help us continue to pull animals out of the cruel and inhumane conditions of commercial breeding facilities.
Thankfully, these lucky survivors are now safe and sound in the care of the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. They will receive everything they need to heal from their injuries and ailments, fill their hungry bellies, and one day – when they are deemed ready by our veterinary team – find the responsible, loving homes they so desperately deserve. Animal League America Rescue Coordinator, Karla Agostinello, said all of these fortunate animals, which included Poodles, Westies, Bulldogs, Yorkies, and various other purebreds, were rescued just days before they would have been euthanized.
“These puppy mill rescues are special to us because these animals have no other option; no other way out. I wouldn’t even want to think of the outcome if we and National Mill Dog Rescue didn’t work together to rescue them,” Karla said. “The dogs were either too old to continue to breed for profit, and the younger ones were given away because the mills needed to downsize or needed the space for newer animals. Whatever the reasoning, we are so thankful to have the opportunity to save their lives.”
Toys & Treats for Puppy Mill Rescues
The next step for these Puppy Mill survivors is to become comfortable in their new surroundings. They are certain to be frightened and unsure. These poor dogs never had the joy of playing with a toy, or been given a yummy treat. A stuffed animal toy to provide comfort as they remind them of their baby pups. A little love from you will go a long way! Please consider a special gift from our Wish List is one powerful way to make a difference in their lives.
